Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Join a dynamic and growing cancer program! The Division of Hematology and Oncology at Kings County is looking for a dedicated, patient-centered nurse practitioner (NP). Kings County is part of NYC Health & Hospitals and is a major academic affiliate of SUNY Downstate.
The NP will work alongside the Hematology and Oncology attending physicians at Kings County to care for primarily patients with cancer. In this role, you will be an integral member of the cancer team. You will help us grow and build an efficient, high-quality cancer service. Responsibilities will include primarily clinical care of patients, as well as administrative and educational activities for the cancer center if desired.
The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, responsible, motivated professional with strong clinical judgment who wants to make a big impact while growing their oncology and administrative skills. We are looking for a team player who has a positive attitude who is eager to learn and progress.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Adult Hematology and Oncology with a focus on outpatient care. You will learn the management of these cases in this role. Oncology experience is not necessary, but preferred.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Job responsibilities and day-to-day tasks include:
- Patient history and physical examinations
- Preparing patient charts in advance of patient visits (EMR)
- Clear documentation and communication of the plan of care to care team
- Clear and timely communication with patients
- Ability to independently assess patients and develop treatment plans
- Write orders using the EMR
- Interpretation of clinical records
- Follow up plans and survivorship care
- Participation in tumor board conferences and cancer committee
- Coordination with departmental RNs with respect to cancer patient management and care
- Participation in quality improvement and research projects pertinent to this patient population
Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and
3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Department Preferences
Strongly prefer National Board Certification in specialty in which you are assigned.
Benefits
In addition to base compensation, you may also receive the following based on the Collectively-Bargained Agreement:
- An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health field from an accredited college or university, as listed below:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelors in allied health field = $900
- Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Masters in allied health field = $1,200
- Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500
- An annual certification differential of $1,878 if you currently hold an appropriate certification that is nationally recognized in the field or area of specialization for which you are employed.
- An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- For NP (PC/BH) ONLY: An annual assignment differential ranging from $10,000 up to $25,000 if assigned to a Behavioral Health department AND regularly working evenings/nights
